La capital provincial es la ciudad de San Cristóbal.</li><li>Fue creada en 1932 con el nombre de Provincia Trujillo en honor a su creador, el dictador Rafael Leonidas Trujillo. Luego de la muerte de Trujillo en 1961, se le dio su nombre actual de San Cristóbal por el nombre de la ciudad capital. La capital de la provincia se llama también San Cristóbal.</li><li>Esta ciudad cuenta con muchos vestigios de la época de la dictadura. Se pueden encontrar imponentes construcciones realizas en esta era, tales como El Castillo del Cerro, La Casas de Cahoba, La Catedral Nuestra Sra. de la Consolación, El Ayuntamiento, El Liceo Musical, El Instituto Politecnico Loyola. Además el centro de la ciudad, la cual en su época era apodada La Tacita de Café del país, por lo bien cuidada y detallista de esta ciudad.</li><li>Hoy en día esta es una ciudad en vías de modernización y organización.
